SPLINTERS

YUKAI DU EXHIBITION

OUCH! I got a splinter stuck in my mind!

Yukai’s works teaches us that splinters are not necessarily a painful annoyance.

With thousands of splinter-like lines she creates whirling, colourful and intriguing patterns. Her capability to create textures with essential segments is beyond surprising.

While you enjoy the splintered aesthetics you can’t help come to the realisation that the delicate trivial lines are nothing more than the unit of measurement that the artist uses to investigate concepts of societal and individual sensibility. They range from meditation in digital modernity to a depiction of society constantly craving and attempting to fulfil their insatiable desires.

The illustrator’s messages stick deep and sharp in one’s mind like penetrat- ing splinters.

Yukai Du is an illustrator and animator from Guangzhou, China, currently based in London.
She graduated from Central Saint Martins College in 2014.
